Welcome to The Environmental Protection and Development Association (EPDA)

About us

The Environmental Protection and Development Association (EPDA) is dedicated to preserving nature while creating sustainable communities globally. We spearhead impactful conservation projects, build alliances focused on the climate crisis, advocate for science-based policies and empower future generations to be stewards of our shared planet. Join us as we build a worldwide movement to protect the Earth with care, wisdom and hope.

VISION

Achieve a world built upon healthy environment for the support of a sustainable and peaceful lifestyle by the combined efforts of communities, civil society, government and businesses

MISSION

To promote sustainable environment, food security and peace as catalyst for community development

Our programmes

Water Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH)

Impact: Over the past five years, this initiative has served more than 50,000 Cameroonians by building boreholes, wells, and eco-friendly toilets, while promoting hygiene education to prevent water-borne diseases.

Environment and Natural Resources Management (ENRM)

Impact for ENRM: EPDA's program in Cameroon enhances community and environmental awareness, promotes climate and conservation education, supports sustainable resource management, restores degraded lands, protects water catchments, boosts climate resilience, and advocates for policy collaboration

Agriculture and Food Security (AFS)

Impact: This program has supported over 25,000 farmers through training in sustainable agricultural practices, emergency food distribution, nutrition education, and market linkages, aiming to double this reach in the next five years.

Nutrition Education

This initiative focuses on providing communities with essential knowledge about nutritious diets, food preparation techniques, and the importance of maintaining kitchen gardens.

Linkages to Markets

Our Linkages to Markets Program is designed to connect farmer cooperatives with vendors and external markets, enabling them to secure better prices for their produce.

Sustainable Agriculture Training

We focus on teaching practices such as composting, integrated pest management, and agroforestry, which not only improve soil health but also promote biodiversity and resilience against climate change.

Post-Harvest Storage Support

By improving storage facilities and access to financial resources, we aim to empower smallholder farmers to preserve their harvests, minimize waste, and optimize their income.

WHERE WE WORK
PARTNERING WITH EPDA
WASH in emergencies

EPDA provides high priority and need-based interventions in low-income communities (LIC) and communities in need (CIN) throughout the national territory of Cameroon in a bit to contribute to the well-being of the local population, who are poor, in need and/or depend mostly on natural resources for their livelihoods.  Our work focuses on environmental protection, poverty alleviation, and the reduction of suffering/hunger.  We ensure our projects are tailored to the specific needs of the beneficiaries while respecting the cultural norms of the local communities as well as national and international frameworks and policies that support such interventions. We, therefore, engage community groups especially youth and women in our work and ensure that our actions influence the decision and policy-making processes as well as local ownership. Currently, we work in the North West and southwest regions with plans to extend to the Littoral, South, East and the Far North regions of Cameroon

EPDA is opened to partnership and believes on teamwork especially in related domains of our interventions. Together, we can better address the challenges of our environment and the needs and suffering of people especially those hit by crisis. Therefore share your expertise and/or resources with EPDA as a partner, intern, or volunteer so that we can make the world better. While EPDA strives to secure a sustainable future for all, it builds on an environment where services nurture peace, networking and sustainable development.

“Serving vulnerable people and their communities in times of crisis”

During humanitarian emergencies, the risk of human rights violations, violence and displacement to the affected individuals is extreme. Above all, water and sanitation systems are often vulnerable to attack. With no potable water or adequate sanitation and hygiene facilities, individuals especially those already suffering from malnutrition and weakened immune systems — become even more susceptible to water-borne diseases.
