EPDA Cameroon

ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION AND DEVELOPMENT ASSOCIATION

Who We Are

The Environmental Protection and Development Association (EPDA) is a non-governmental, non-profit organization founded in Cameroon in 2005 by a group of concerned environmentalists and community development professionals. Our organization was born out of a desire to protect Cameroon’s rich natural heritage and promote sustainable development that uplifts communities.

Over the past 15 years, EPDA has grown to become one of the leading environmental advocacy groups in the country. We are headquartered in Yaounde with field offices across Cameroon’s 10 regions. Our team consists of over 50 dedicated staff members and hundreds of volunteers who are passionate about building a sustainable future for Cameroon.

EPDA is governed by a Board of Directors comprised of eminent Cameroonian professionals with expertise in environmental management, community development, law, business administration and finance. We also have a General Assembly that includes all registered members of our organization.

Our founders recognised early on that the health of our environment and communities are deeply interlinked. Protecting ecosystems and promoting sustainable livelihoods must go hand-in-hand. This holistic approach guides all of EPDA’s programs and initiatives.

Over the years, EPDA has partnered with local communities, government agencies, businesses, schools, youth groups and the media to deliver impactful environmental programs across Cameroon. From educating farmers on sustainable agriculture to restoring degraded forests to providing clean water and sanitation facilities in rural areas – our work spans a diverse range of projects, bound by a common goal.

EPDA is proud of the recognition we have recieved, including the prestigious Wangari Maathai Environmental Award in 2017. Our effective community-based models have been adopted nationally and internationally. But more important than awards is the tangible change we see in the villages, forests and cities where we work everyday.

As we move forward, EPDA aims to expand our scope and impact. We believe in a Cameroon where present and future generations enjoy the gifts of nature – fresh air, clean water, healthy soils and lush forests. We envision sustainable communities living in harmony with their environments. And we are committed to making this vision a reality through collaborative action. Join us!
